Feeling Guilty
I just had a college girl, selling educational children's books, stop at our house. She was asking all about what kinds of educational things we do with Isabella and what she is able to do. I was telling her how we read to her all the time (sometimes I feel bad because she ALWAYS wants to read, and I get a little annoyed), she also is counting to three and knows how many one, two, and three actually is. She can recognise a few letters and tell me what they are, and she knows a few colors and shapes. I think she's doing okay without these books the lady was selling. But why do I feel so guilty for not buying them (they were EXPENSIVE, and only came in sets). She was telling me all about the people in town that I knew that had already bought them, she implied that my child wouldn't know everything she needed to for school without these books, etc. I realize that's what a salesperson does, so why do I still feel guilty.

Oh my gosh. Don't feel guilty! That reminds me of how some parents think their kid needs to go to preschool at age 2 several days/ week for "socialization" or so they can learn their letters etc. Whatever! These babies are so much better off with one on one attention from their parents.
Very true! When she was talking about all the stuff kids need to know in order to go to kindergarden, I thought - my goodness, she's 1! Is that really what it's coming to?!
It really irritates me all the things kids are "supposed" to know before entering kindergarden. I thought kindergarden was the place to learn those things!
Definitely don't feel guilty about not buying the books. Like you said before, she's only 1. Let her be a kid now. School will come soon enough! It bothers me that so many people are in such a hurry to push their children into school, like Beth was saying.
I dont even open the door anymore! Don't feel guilty, you are a way better Mom than most anyway and I agree with BEth!
