Mommylife has a cute post today. It's about terms of endearment. Here's what we call Isabella.
When she was first born, for some reason, it was really hard for us to call her Isabella. We didn't know her gender before she was born, and I was positive I was having a boy so I guess I never imagined myself with an Isabella. Now I can't imagine her as anything else. Anyway, all the nurses during her hospital stay always called her "little dolly" or "dolly" due to her tinyness. For about the first six months of her life, Monte called her "Miss Baby". It was so cute, that's all he called her, even when he was talking about her. For example, "I think Miss Baby is hungry." :) I always called her "Baby girl" for the first couple of months. From there we went on to Smelly Isabelly (man, did she have some gas issues for a while). After that we went on to always using her full name for some reason, Isabella Ann. Now we only call her Isabella Annie or just Annie. One thing I have always called her is "Angel". I use that one a lot. Actually I don't think I ever call her Isabella, except when I'm talking about her or writing about her. When I'm actually talking to her it's either "Angel" or "Annie". It's funny because before she was born, we always said if we had a girl we would name her Isabella, but call her Belle. I still really like the name, but I can't imagine her as Belle. So how about you, I would love to hear what everyone's nicknames are for their kids!

Charles mostly gets called Charles around here. That's by Peter and me. My entire extended family calls him Charlie. As far as terms of endearment, I will call him my bumble bee and other silly things like that, but no real nickname for this kid yet.
I'm glad you wrote that post. I would never have known at all that you call Isabella anything but Isabella because you only ever write Isabella. Nicknames are funny things, huh?!
When I was pregnant with both children we didn't find out the gender. So when we were expecting our 1st (Benjamin) we called the baby "Bumpkin". After he has born we still called him "Bumpkin", then came "Little Man", "Ben Bob","Tiger", "Little Loon", and currently we call him "Turbo". We have always called him Benjamin. When you ask Benjamin what his name is he will insistently say Ben Robert and will deny the name Benjamin.
As for our 2nd (Ada) we called her "Little P" or "P Little" when I was pregnant. Now we call her "Little P", "Princess", or "Baby Girl". I always thought we would only call her Ada but now it seems like we always say her full name, Ada Mae.
I have to say that I haven't thought about this in a while--the names just come so naturally that this was fun to reminisce about.
My sister Abby's middle name is Elizabeth, so Mom called her Lizzie as a child. One time they were together looking at new cars and talking to a car salesman. Mom, in talking to Abby, called her Lizzie, and before they left, the man bid them farewell, calling Abby "Lizzie." No one but Mom calls her that, but he was trying hard to get the sale!
We call Isaac by that name pretty much all the time. I think I call him honey bunny (poor guy!) around the house. Simon gets called Simes (one syllable) by me and his brother. Or Benny, Benedictus, or Simeon by his dad! (middle name Benedict)
I love this, all these names are just too cute you guys!
Meredith, your story about Abby reminds me of my dad. The only thing he has ever called me is Ann, which is my middle name and was his mother's name. He still only calls me that. Also I forgot to add - other than my dad calling me Ann, my family is not too fond of nicknames. They always call her Isabella, but Monte's family (depending on the person) calls her either Izzy or Bella.
Ah, nicknames. Maggie is actually Magdalena which I wanted to call her but my sister liked Maggie and she just kind of became Maggie although I HATE shortening names! Che is actually his middle name and Eric his first. I am really Brenda much to my chagrin. When Maggie was born we called her Baby Girl too and still do sometimes. My sister and her family tend to call her Mags. I like Isabella and Belle too! My DAD used to call me monkey and "pooter" (and I have no idea why) and still does.
Madeleine is Angel almost all the time. If she is doing something naughty (like pulling everything off the shelves) she is Madeleine Margaret. Ava calls her Baby.
And speaking of nicknames, I have called Ava everything in the book. Baby Chubb (she was THE fattest baby ever!) Now she's Avie Rose or Billy (I made up a song about her being "Silly Billy.") When I call her Billy, she says "No, not Billy! Avie Rose!" :)
