Ergo Question

I have taken the advice that many of you have given me, and am pretty sure that I'm going to get an Ergo. I convinced Monte to get me one for my birthday, which is coming up. But I'm still being a bit hesitant, which is why I haven't ordered it yet. Just when I think I'm ready to order it, I think I can get by with the Baby Bjorn. I used the Bjorn almost constantly for the first three months, but haven't really used it since then until last week. We had a very short lived wave of nice weather (now it's back to cold and snow) and I decided to put Jaymes in the Bjorn (his first time outside EVER without being covered up with a blanket, can you believe it?!) so I would be free to hang out with Isabella, push her on the swingset, etc. And now I'm thinking if we had an Ergo it would get used a lot with summer coming up, and would make things so easy when we're out and about! So my question is, for those of you that have an Ergo, I'm trying to decide between the Ergo and the Ergo Sport. They are the same price, but the sport version is made of a lighter weight fabric, has vents for keeping parent and baby cool, but doesn't have as big of zippered pocket. So, do you or your kids get really hot in the regular Ergo? And how big is the zippered pocket in the regular Ergo, I would think that would be really handy to have. Also, is it hard to get your child in and out of it by yourself? I've read some reviews that said it is. That's one thing I like about the Bjorn, it's very easy to get him in and out (not so easy on the shoulders, though!).

Ready to go outside, he loved it!

I'll take a stab. :>) I remember getting warm while wearing Goose, and when I took her off after a walk or such I was a bit damp, but even though I REALLY REALLY DISLIKE being hot, I don't remember it being too bad.

As for the pocket, I didn't use it much. I kept a disposable diaper in there and a small ziplock of wipes as a "just in case" (which I needed on occasion) but that's about it. I may have occasionally put my keys in there, but really, with a baby, I never got too far from the diaper bag anyway.

I don't think you'll be too bummed out either way. I would also think (with nothing to back it up, of course)that if you really didn't care for the one you chose, you could sell it and get most of your money out of it then get the other one.

Hm. I don't use mine enough or long enough to comment on getting hot. Also we don't use the pocket a ton though it's plenty big enough to store an extra pacifier or two which is what I usually use it for.

I DO love the Ergo for putting baby on my back. Like most things, it take a few times to build your confidence in getting baby in and out but I've never had a problem with it. When I have baby in front, I still feel unable to do too much because my arms are still so constricted but with baby on my back it's fabulous!

I think you'll really like either one, too.

Oh, I forgot to mention - I wore Goose in the front mostly (still can, though she's getting kinda tall :>)) but after practicing a few times, I felt quite confident getting her on my back.

I get hot with any carrier with my sweaty baby boys ;)

However I LOVE the ergo. It's pretty much my go to carrier. The other day Leo was asleep in his carseat, so I put the carseat in the stroller and strapped John Paul on my back. He was a little scared back there (and my fat was hanging over the strap), so I moved him to my front and he LOVED it. I couldn't comment on the regular vs. sport.

I get sweaty in the summer with any carrier, too. But I think with the Ergo, you'll be using it beyond the summer, too. I know our situation is different, but we still use it with a 33 pounder, so this can be a long-term investment. We use it at the grocery store, church, walks, hikes, when putting Simon to sleep, when cooking, or when child needs to be restrained.

We borrowed a Baby Bjorn for Isaac, and I think the Ergo is more comfortable. Plus, you can use it on your back, which is the only way we use it now with our two.

When I am in public and put a kid on my back in the Ergo, bystanders rush over to try to "help." But honestly, once you get the hang of it, it's so easy, and they're amazed that it's such a quick process. I remember the first time I watched my friend put hers on, I thought her kid was a goner, for sure. But nope, she knew what she was doing. It's like a magic trick. :)

I don't use the pocket for anything, but it's big enough to hold a diaper, wipes, maybe a baggie of a snack. I'm not a great planner.

Your birthday is coming. Yay!
