My Very Own Personal Trainer

That's right, I never thought I would be able to afford one, but it turns out that I got one for free. Let me tell you a little about her.

Her name is Isabella.

She insists that I go for numerous walks every day when the weather is nice, all while she gets to be pushed around. If I don't walk long enough she insists on "more, more, more, PWEASE".

She also orders me to take several bike rides, all while riding behind me and tapping on my back as if to say, faster, faster! If the bike ride isn't long enough, she insists on "more, more, more, PWEASE."

She makes sure I'm not neglecting giving my arms a workout by making sure I push her in her swing several times a day for long periods of time.

And last, she makes sure I watch what I eat because I know whatever I'm eating, she's going to want a bite of. So I better make sure what I'm eating is something I don't mind her eating.

So as you can see, when the weather is nice, it's really quite a strict workout regimen that she has me on, but I'm loving every minute of it!

Well the trip to the zoo sounds like a blast! We're taking C in two weeks, but I don't think he'll be quite as excited.

What else should I know about feeding someone allergic to dairy? What are some good resources? Does Monte eat anything in particular to make up for not eating dairy?

I'd be most grateful for any info that you can share with me!

Well . . . I don't how much my info is worth, but since you asked, here's my two cents.

I do know that when you are reading labels, dairy is also diguised as "casein" and "hydrolyzed whey protein" and "whey" so definitely watch out for those. Monte also has to take a calcium supplement everyday, not sure how that would work for Charles, but maybe there are some children's vitamins with extra calcium. I checked the vitamins that Isabella takes, but there's not much calcium in those. There are also some brands of 100% juice that are advertised as having as much calcium as milk.

As far as milk . . . I know there were some concerns on your blog about soy milk. As I said, Monte drinks soy milk, but the more I read about soy, the more I am going to try to convince him to switch to something else (goat, rice, or almond milk). A natural health doctor I recently visited told me I shouldn't even be baking/cooking with soy, especially if I'm giving those things to Isabella. One thing I keep reading over and over is about the phytoestrogens in soy and that they mimic estrogen, and that giving a baby soy is the equivalent of giving them FIVE birth control pills a day!! I do believe this, as I was on soy formula as a baby (which my mom feels guilty about now) and my hormones are completely messed up, I've had them tested recently and they were way out of wack. Some of the puzzle pieces are starting to come together as this could have played a major role in all of my pregnancy complications, as hormone imbalance can cause pre-term labor. Hopefully I can get the situation under control and things will go better with any future pregnancies. This site has a lot of info -

Sorry if I went way off topic, but like I said, I know there was some discussion about this on your blog. Good luck with your decisions on what to give Charles, hopefully he will outgrow the allergy. From what my mom tells me, I outgrew my dairy allergy when I was about 3.

Thanks so much, Angela! I love hearing about babies outgrowing these allergies. It keeps me hopeful!

I'll have to look into vitamins with extra calcium for babies. So I guess I'll switch C to rice milk...he wasn't so crazy about the soy anyway.

And that is so interesting that having a soy formula as a baby may have effected your horomones today - crazy! I do hope you're able to get that all firgured out.

Thanks again.

Now a comment about your post:
One of the side benefits of having a kid is watching what you eat because exactly like you said: he's going to want a bite. So if I don't want him eating it, why should I be eating it? It goes right along with the last parenting book I was reading (which was really about spiritual upbringing) that parents always lead their children first by example and that includes diet!!
