Life on the farm
Sick of chicken talk? Sorry, I'm slowly becoming a crazy chicken lady, I think! I sewed curtains for their nesting boxes. Crazy you may think? 😄 Curtains actually help with egg production, though, as they prefer a bit of quiet and privacy to lay their eggs.

The most beautiful egg I've ever seen!
Laid by our own "Mrs. Consuela". She's the first one of our seven hens to lay. Very exciting times here! 😄

Sticks in the ground!
We recently had 150 trees planted on our land. We weren't quite sure what to expect, but we were surprised to see what seemed to be sticks everywhere! This one is an Ash tree, we also got crabapple and chokecherry.
In addition to the "sticks" we have about 40 of these little babies - Blue Spruce about the size of my hand.
Much to our relief, after less than a week, our "sticks" already have buds on them (blurry cell phone pic)!! I think it's going to be fun to nurture these little baby trees, and watch how much they grow from year to year.
And of course I had to throw a picture of chubby baby in here, watching us check on the trees.

Even better than TV...
My handy hubby built the chicken coop this weekend, and I'm amazed at how long the kids (even Jonah!) can sit and watch them! Jaymes likes to be hands on and spend a lot of time right in there with them, too. They will definitely be pet chickens! They already come right up to us to be petted.

The girls
Meet the newest little ladies in our family - Michelle, Chickaletta, Gloria, Mrs. Consuela, Buffy, Puffy, and Christie! They're about a week and a half old right now, and growing fast! We got them when they were 3 days old. I will be happy when the smelly little things can regulate their temperatures a little better, and go out to their (yet unconstructed) coop, Although, it is convenient and fun to have them in the basement for now. I've been reading up every chance I get, as neither of us have ever had chickens before. So far it's been a fun little adventure. I have always wanted chickens, I can't wait for farm fresh eggs!

Welcome to the farm!
We recently became the owners of a new (to us) home set on 5 acres. For us, it's like a dream come true! We both have only the best memories of growing up on farms, and now our kids will get to experience the country life as well. There are horses in the pasture right next to our pasture, and the neighbor has already brought them over, offering rides to the kids.
It's a dreary, rainy day here, and looking out our front windows makes me think of what the country side in England or Ireland might look like. I've never been there, but I imagine it somewhat like this. Green pastures as far as the eye can see, along with rolling hills. I'm afraid the picture doesn't quite capture the actual beauty of it!
Stay tuned, the first of our farm animals should be arriving next week!
